Jewish people who keep the laws of 'Kosher' find a hard time when it comes to planning a new trip — is there kosher food, restaurants, hotels, and apartments in the destination?

Solution: An app that gathers all the correct and accurate information about Kosher resources almost all over the world.

❤️ Empathize — Survey & Interview

I assumed kosher travelers would look for kosher restaurants, shops, and accommodations. A survey posted on Facebook and WhatsApp groups revealed a different picture.

Survey findings: Most respondents travel at least once a year. Kosher restaurants and kosher hotels are equally popular. People prefer destinations with a Jewish community or Bet Chabad. Kosher vacations are usually not organized by a single app. People are not very interested in local Jewish-history sites.

Key features requested: Price comparisons and user ratings / Kosher restaurants by destination / Kosher product photos and kashrut info / Filtering restaurants by location / Barcode scanning for kosher products

🎤 Interviews

I conducted interviews with kosher observant people who travel abroad with their families. Beyond the quantitative survey data, I gained qualitative and in-depth information — a better understanding of users' pain points.

Conclusions: Need a list of kosher products (including unmarked ones) / Kosher restaurants list / Small private places and B&Bs / Community-updatable content / Save for later functionality

Problems found in testing: Users didn't understand the map/list view toggle. The 'to-stay' & 'to-eat' tabs were confused with planning/saving. Users wanted to see both accommodations and restaurants together.

Key insight: Remove the map/list toggle buttons. Consolidate to 3 tabs.

ZOOM For Orthodox

Feature Redesign · 2022

A redesign of the ZOOM screen-sharing feature for better accessibility — aimed at Orthodox Jewish users who usually don't speak English but use ZOOM heavily for learning and Torah study.

● Problem

The English-only interface caused fear and confusion. Users were afraid of accidentally sharing private content instead of relevant documents.

🔍 Research — Empathize & Define

User interviews revealed that ultra-Orthodox students love ZOOM — it saves them time and money. The main pain point was screen sharing: unclear options caused anxiety about accidentally sharing personal information.

Opportunities found: More visual explanations / Onboarding animations / Hebrew language support / Clearer Cancel button

📊 Competitive Analysis

All competitors use informative icons and divide options into clear sections. Adopted: guest status indicators, subtitles, illustrative icons, Hebrew support, reducible self-view panel.

🕸 Wireframes — Lo-Fi & Hi-Fi

Language barrier → added illustrations and icons. Fear of sharing files → moved Cancel button to a more prominent position. Many sharing options → divided into two vertical columns to reduce cognitive load.

🎨 UI Design + 2nd Usability Testing

Designed following ZOOM's visual guidelines. Key elements: warning message, informative illustration, actions split into 2 sections (device + external apps), bold Cancel button.

🎉 Results

91% success rate — after the final iteration, participants understood the screen-sharing option, their self-confidence grew, and overall satisfaction increased significantly.

A UI prototype for Post Office Bank — redesigning the banking experience within a familiar, accessible environment that people already trust.

This project focused on creating a clean, approachable banking interface that leverages the existing trust users have in the post office brand.

My Story

Benny Unger — Product Builder (Senior Product Designer)

I started with a paintbrush. Fine art, illustration — the kind of work where you stare at something for three hours and no one tells you to ship it.

Then I discovered product design, and something clicked: the real craft isn't making things beautiful — it's making them work. The visual skills I built didn't disappear, but they became a tool in service of that, not the point.

I'm a senior product designer who leads with UX. Functionality, clarity, how people actually use things — that's where I start. The art background earns its place when it helps communicate a flow, make a pattern legible, or reduce cognitive load. Not before.

Lately I've been deep in AI + product design. I use Claude Code to ship directly from Figma — this portfolio is one of them. Something clicked when I realized I could have a conversation with my tools and they'd build things back. That's not automation. That's collaboration.
